Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula?

A doula is a ‘birthing bestie’ that provides non medical, non judgmental support & education to expecting parents during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.

Most people get a doula and a midwife confused so I like to use the expression that “a doula coaches and a midwife catches.”

Why have a doula?

When it comes to the intense nature of birth your doula can stay levelheaded, recognize any red flags in the room, and release the burden of anxiety and stress without guilt. They’re a resource for you to lean into and know exactly what you're going through and how best to help you.

Studies have shown that having a doula as a member of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40%, and requests for an epidural by 60%.

Who can use a doula?

Any pregnant person can have a doula. A doula can be beneficial no matter what type of birth you are planning. They support your birth choices.

The goal of a doula is to help the birthing person experience a positive and safe birth, whether a natural, medicated, or caesarean birth.

Will a doula replace my partner or support person?

The role of the doula is never to take the place of partners or other support in labor, but complement & enhance their experience.

Some advantages of having a doula on your birthing team is encouraging your support to use comfort techniques and stepping in to provide them a break.

Do you only support births?

No. I am a full spectrum doula and I support ALL birth outcomes including termination and/or loss. Please reach out about support.

Do you accept insurance or Medicaid?

I currently accept straight Medicaid, Molina, and McLaren, Priority Health and Meridian. Payment plans are also available.

How can I book with you?

I like to start with a consultation to ensure that I can give you the best support. You can schedule a FREE 20 minute consultation so we can discuss your plan and get to know each other.
